In honor of National Poetry Month, we’ve dug up a video of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton reciting Howard Nemerov‘s poem, “The Makers.”

Clinton, who at the time was serving as First Lady, recorded this video for “The Favorite Poem Project” in 1999. Her husband, President Bill Clinton, also participated in this project. This project was founded by the 39th poet laureate of the United States, Robert Pinsky.

In the past, Clinton wrote and published several books including the 1996 nonfiction title It Takes a Village: And Other Lessons Children Teach Us and the 2003 memoir Living History. At the moment, speculations and rumors are circulating about the new book Clinton plans to pen.
Yoko Ono Lands Book Deal with OR Books

Artist Yoko Ono inked a deal with OR Books for an “instructional poetry” book entitled Acorn. The publisher plans to release this title in June 2013.

OR Books described the Acorn manuscript as “an extension” of Ono’s 1964 art book, Grapefruit. Ono has collaborated with other writers on books, but this is her first book published by herself in nearly 50 years.

Over at The Guardian, Ono explained the book: “It’s something I originally created for the internet. For 100 days, every day, a different instruction was communicated. Now it’s being published in book form. I’m riding a time machine that’s going back to the old ways! Great! I added my dot drawings to give you further brainwork.”

David Tennant Reads ‘Sonnet 18′ by William Shakespeare

Happy National Poetry Month!

To kick off this month-long celebration, we’ve dug up a video featuring actor David Tennant reciting William Shakespeare’s “Sonnet 18.” Tennant recorded this reading for Touch Press’ 2012 iPad app, “The Sonnets.”

What’s your favorite Shakespearean sonnet? While many have come to know Tennant for playing the tenth incarnation of Doctor Who, he is also a respected stage actor. In the past, he has acted in productions of Hamlet (playing the Meloncholy Dane himself) and Love’s Labours Lost (portraying Lord Berowne).

Reading Rainbow host, actor and book app creator LeVar Burton recently tweeted that hosting the quiz show Jeopardy would be “my dream job.” His tweet inspired an online petition that is already nearing 1,000 signatures.

This GalleyCat editor agrees that Burton would make a “intelligent and kind host” for the show (he already starred as a celebrity contestant).

The video embedded above features Jepsen introducing the project and talking about the first fan poll: “Which lyrics should Carly use in the first stanza of the first verse for her new hit song, ‘Take A Picture?’”

Once completed, Jepsen will perform the finished piece on American Idol‘s season 12 finale which airs the week of May 12th.
