Ergonomic eReader Case on Kickstarter

Ambulant has created an ergonomic eReader case called the Wingo. They hope to raise $55,000 on Kickstarter to cover the costs of manufacturing the product.

We’ve embedded a video about the project above–what do you think? Here’s more about the project from Dr. Anthony D. Andre:

The Wingo is a simple but elegant solution to the growing dilemma of how to hold tablet devices without undue effort, strain or fatigue, especially when using only one hand. Its “wings” virtually hold onto the user’s hand, negating the need for the user to pinch the device and carry the burden of the weight with the finger tips. I think that it represents a valuable ergonomic option for frequent users of such devices.

Jonathan Safran Foer Makes Kickstarter Pitch

Everything is Illuminated and Eating Animals author Jonathan Safran Foer taped a video supporting the Buying Poultry campaign on Kickstarter.

We’ve embedded the video above–it is part of an online project to show people how to pick “the most humane and sustainable poultry products.” For a $6,000 pledge to the campaign, you and a guest can have lunch with Foer in Brooklyn. Check it out:

For the past four years, we’ve been working with high-welfare poultry farmers and animal welfare experts to create BuyingPoultry.com—a free buying guide that takes the guesswork out of choosing the most humane and sustainable poultry products and plant-based alternatives. BuyingPoultry.com will list every poultry producer and poultry certification in the United Sates and also tell you how they treat their animals, their employees, and the environment.

Moby Dick Card Game Raises $65,500+

With 21 days left in the campaign, King Post has raised more than $65,500 on Kickstarter for “Moby Dick, or, The Card Game.”

Each card will showcase a quote from Herman Melville‘s beloved novel. The finished product will feature a deck that consists of more than 100 unique cards, 40 custom oil makers, 2 dice, and a rule book. We’ve embedded a video about the project above–what do you think? Here’s more about the project:

Just as one of Melville’s goals in writing the book was to bring landlubbers like us into the glorious and tragic world of the whaler at sea, our game encourages players to interact with the text in a new, exciting and immersive way. Even without a knowledge of the novel, playing the game will clue you into the relationships between key sailors and the various perils and processes of hunting whales in the 19th century.

Designing the Best Crowdfunding Perks

At the Digital Hollywood conference in Los Angeles today, a group of successful Indiegogo and Kickstarter campaign founders shared advice at the “Crowdfunding Case Studies” panel discussion.

Sarah Weichel helped with the Indiegogo campaign for Hello, Harto!, raising nearly $223,000 for to take a show on the road. She revealed that most fans wanted to spend between $20 and $50 for the campaign.

Weichel’s campaign offered a number of perks, including buttons, t-shirts, doodles and other tangible rewards for backers. Weichel explained that the best perks should be customized and tangible: “[Fans] want something you have touched or made custom for them in some way.”

‘Writer’s Guide to Hollywood’ on Kickstarter

Pretty Woman producer Gary W. Goldstein hopes to raise $12,000 to self-publish his book, The Writer’s Guide to Hollywood.

The funds will be used to hire a book designer, an editor, a proofreader, and a web designer. It will also cover the first print run and the costs of shipping the books out to stores. We’ve embedded a video about the project above–what do you think? Here’s more about the project:

“As a producer and literary manager, I’ve discovered keys to success in Hollywood — valuable tools that actually launch careers — the very things that helped me jumpstart careers for so many screenwriters and filmmakers, and that allowed me to launch my own career when I was new to Los Angeles and didn’t know anyone in the business. I want to share these strategies with writers everywhere so they too can build a career doing what they love.”

Indie Poetry Magazine on Kickstarter

Victoria Brockmeier hopes to raise $2,300 to establish the independent poetry magazine, Lumn. The funds will be used to cover the printing costs, purchasing supplies, and Amazon fees.

Above, we’ve embedded a video about the Kickstarter project–what do you think? Here’s more about the project:

“Does the world need another poetry magazine? Yes. An unqualified, emphatic yes. Although we have a lot of excellent magazines around, we don’t have one quite like Lumn…I’m printing poems from a rich spectrum of voices, including established but exciting names alongside brand new writers — as any magazine should — but these poems combine lush imagery, a love of play, obsidian-edge precision even in their cryptic aspects, and an abiding inquiry into the depth, warmth, and difficulty of our human condition.”

Here’s more about the project: “Our trip will also include guerrilla performances of People Against Poetry, an interactive performance pioneered by Adam Atkinson and S.E. Smith in which (unsuspecting) participants often find themselves advocating passionately for the importance of keeping poetry and literary arts programs in public schools. This entire adventure will be documented on camera by Ben Pelhan…”

Phantom Tollbooth Documentary Coming This Summer

Freckless Productions will release The Phantom Tollbooth Turns 50 documentary this summer. Back in November 2011, director Hannah Jayanti raised $31,000 on Kickstarter to cover the production costs.

The official trailer is embedded above–what do you think? The movie will include appearances by author Norton Juster, illustrator Jules Feiffer, and Emmy Award-winning actor David Hyde Pierce (who narrated the audiobook edition). Here’s more about the film:

We follow Norton and Jules as they return to the house in Brooklyn Heights where Norton began writing a little story ‘to get his mind off of what he had to do.’ Working as an architect, Norton was awarded a grant for a book on Urban Perception, which he promptly didn’t write. Instead, he created Milo. When he showed his notes to his neighbor, a young political cartoonist bent on overthrowing the government, Jules began sketching – and The Phantom Tollbooth was born.

Louisville Public Media Raises Funds for Fiction Focused Radio Show

Louisville Public Media has raised $4,000 on Kickstarter to fund their short fiction-focused radio show called Unbound. The organizers plan to use the money to cover the costs of production. We’ve embedded a video about the project above–what do you think?

Here’s more about the project: “Our goal is to help give fiction fans and writers a space to connect through public radio. The communal aspect of a public radio show brings reading outside of living rooms and university classes and into the public space, encouraging community-wide discourse on the importance of literature in our daily lives.”

Marvel and Image comics artist Steven Sanders hopes to raise $50,000 on Kickstarter for his art book, Symbiosis.

Sanders plans to use the money to release the book in both eBook and hardcover format. The 100+ page book will contain fully-painted artwork. We’ve embedded a video about the project above–what do you think? Here’s more about the project:

It explores a world where there are no mechanical sources of power. Instead, humanity has learned to utilize biological engines that harness a “bio-ether” present on the planet. They can control and feel what these bio-engines feel via a “Resonance Tooth.” Consider it 1940s era bio-punk.

Hol Art Books has raised more than $22,000 on Kickstarter for their project, The People’s E-Book.
Here’s more about the project: “The People’s E-book is a super-simple online tool with an intuitive visual interface to allow anyone to make e-books quickly and for free.
