Check Her Hairline for Birthmarks, I Say!

ann-coulter.jpgThe Omen isn’t the only dark satanic spectacle taking advantage of today’s 6/6/06 dateline to present itself in a garishly sacrilegious manner—it’s also the official launch date for Ann Coulter’s new book, Godless: The Church of Liberalism. “Liberals love to boast that they are not ‘religious,’” she claims with her usual understatedness, “which is what one would expect to hear from the state-sanctioned religion.” Funny, I must have missed all those times that Clinton and Kerry paraded their atheism before the masses…unless she’s talking about people like Daniel Dennett and “the Brights,” but they’re rationalists, not liberals. Heck, if Penn & Teller: Bullshit is anything to go by, Brights are more likely to be libertarians if they care about politics at all…but we digress.

Back to Coulter: Looking at her media schedule for this morning, it occurs to me that maybe the release date wasn’t selected for its resonance to an infernal progenitor—you could just as easily conclude that she was simply waiting for Katie Couric to leave the Today show so she wouldn’t have to worry about whether the coffee in the green room was safe to drink.

UPDATE: Being the class act she is, Coulter used her Today appearance to lambast 9/11 widows as “self-obsessed women… [who] believe the entire country was required to marinate in their exquisite personal agony.” Editor & Publisher has the summary, and FishbowlNY has the YouTube, but if any of it had anything to do with godlessness, well, they’re no closer to figuring that out than I am.
