Counterpoint Press Will Shutter New York Office

Today Publishers Weekly reported that California’s Counterpoint Press will close its New York office. The office was home Soft Skull Press, editorial director Denise Oswald, and associate editor Anne Horowitz.

Here’s more from the article: “Soft Skull will continue as an imprint from Counterpoint’s Berkeley office. Oswald and Horowitz will leave Counterpoint at the end of the month, but will stay on in a freelance capacity to publish allĀ  books under contract.”

In 2009, the publisher hired Oswald as editorial director of Soft Skull Press and senior editor of Counterpoint to replace Richard Nash–who left the press to pursue new opportunities. Oswald spent nearly ten years at Farrar, Straus and Giroux, editing writers like Colin Beavan, Anne Carson, and Courtney Love.

UPDATE: Publishers Lunch broke the news this morning.
