Dan Brown Breaks Digital Book Records

shortcoverslogo.jpgAs literary types watched–some with awe, some with trepidation, as Dan Brown sold one million copies of his new book in a single day. GalleyCat uncovered some intriguing facts about the author’s big run on the bestseller list.

According to the digital bookstore Shortcovers, Brown’s book broke records at the retailer–selling two times more books than the company’s previous “biggest sales day.” A paidContent.org article speculates the Amazon e-book is actually outselling the hardcover. Here’s more from a Shortcovers spokesperson: “Most purchases were made on the web. Mobile purchases by platform: 37% iPhone, 31% Palm Pre, 29% Blackberry, 3% Android … Shortcovers sold more Lost Symbol yesterday than the last 1.8 months of selling the Twilight series–the number one ‘category’ on Shortcovers to date.”

And if that wasn’t enough of Publishing’s Brown-Out for you, today’s Morning Media Menu discussed Brown’s bestselling streak with Joe Ciarallo, editor of the PRNewser. The publicity expert shared his thoughts about Brown’s selling power, and looked at some of the looming problems facing the PR industry in general.
