Dan Harvey, 1945-2008
We were saddened to learn yesterday of the death of veteran publishing executive Dan Harvey, a senior vice president and director of marketing for Trident Media Group, after his long struggle with melanoma. Harvey’s previous roles as publicity director at Princeton University Press and what was then known as Harper & Row were the prelude to a 17-year tenure at the Putnam division of Penguin Group, where he was eventually named publishing director—there, he created campaigns to promote some of the biggest of bestselling authors, from Tom Clancy to Nora Roberts, as well as books by Lance Armstrong, A. Scott Berg, and Amy Tan.
His family, including his partner, Michael Teipner, brother and sister-in-law Peyton and Chele Harvey, and their children, Kathryn and Christopher, request that in lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in his memory to the research fund of his oncologist, Dr. Jedd Wolchok of the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
