Dillard Says She’s Done with Writing

Daniel Asa Rose‘s interview of THE MAYTREES author Annie Dillard in this past Sunday’s Washington Post Book World got into plenty of detail on the writing life, Dillard’s methods, and a dance the two shared a couple of decades earlier, but Rose left out quite the zinger – which he then saved for this week’s New York Magazine. In the Intelligencer section, Rose reveals that Dillard’s eight novel is likely her last. “I’m tired,” declared Dillard, who added that she won’t be doing any more touring, public readings, blurb writing, or letter answering. “I worked so hard all my life, and all I want to do now is read. I’m glad to go out on this book.”
