Doctorow Out, Kennedy & McDermott In @ AWP

Next year’s annual conference of the Association of Writers and Writing Programs, a long weekend where MFA students mingle with suitably literary writers and editors at panel discussions, readings, and cocktail parties, is coming to New York City at the end of January, but there have been some changes to the schedule announced. A reading by E.L. Doctorow, and a presentation on avant-garde black poetry sponsored by the magazine Callaloo, have been cancelled. The good news is that another event has been added to the program, featuring readings by William Kennedy and Alice McDermott. Registration for the conference is still open; if you sign up by the end of the month, it’s only $185 (less if you’re an AWP member, and way less if you’re a student).
