Drinking a Beer with Readers

AllAboutLulu300.gifOver the last week, the aptly-named “Three Guys, One Book” blog delivered some practical advice for writers lost in the new publishing marketplace.

Last week the trio covered “Getting an Agent and Making a Living,” and today, they took a shot at an equally daunting task, “Surviving the Odds as A Debut Novelist.” The blog is written by Jonathan Evison (author of “All About Lulu“) Bookazine’s director of merchandise Dennis Haritou, and Bookazine assistant sales manager Jason Rice.

Here’s some practical advice from Evison, defending book tours in this difficult economy: “A successful tour will pay for itself with continuing bookseller advocacy. I’ve forged relationships with booksellers who will be advocating for my next ten books. That said, I connect with a ton of readers at events. I always invite everybody in attendance to go drink beer somewhere nearby afterward. Drink beer with your readers and it’s a safe bet they’ll buy your next book and your next.”
