Freakonomics Documentary to be Released on iTunes First

If you had to choose between watching a movie on the computer or in the theater, which would you choose first? In the case of the upcoming Freakonomics documentary, you won’t have one option for almost a month.

On September 3rd, Magnolia Pictures will release the documentary adaptation of Steven Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner‘s New York Times bestseller on iTunes first. The film arrives in theaters a month later.

The Huffington Post reports: “The film itself is four-documentaries-in-one, with documentary heavyweights like Morgan Spurlock and the maker of The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters, [Seth Gordon], each tackling a different subject. The topics, taken from the book, include cheating in the world of sumo wrestling and whether names given at birth are a major determinant of success in life. The only segment not adapted from the source material is about whether financial rewards (read: bribes) can improve the academic performance of high schoolers.”

Back in March, we reported that the Freakonomics filmmakers made an appearance at the Tribeca Film Festival’s closing gala. Besides Spurlock and Gordon, other documentary buffs involved include Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady.
