Geezer Time in NYC

A couple of years ago around this time, the Observer decided to honor the “Power Punks” of the city, which struck me (as well as several other bloggers sitting around a West Village bar) as one of the silliest titles I’ve ever heard. Well, it’s not that much different this year, though the focus has shifted to the old guard — hence the use of the word “geezer” to describe them. How charming.

Anyway, making the list on the publishing/media side is new journalism king Gay Talese (married, of course, to publisher Nan of Nan Talese/Doubleday) which basically gives Tom Scocca an excuse to write lots about the guy; Cynthia Ozick; E.L. Doctorow; Rupert Murdoch (looking awfully smirk-worthy in that accompanying photo); and last but not least, Elaine Kaufman, who still manages to bring in notable townies and visitors into her restaurant (even though I thought everyone went to Michael’s now…)
