HarperCollins Sees Yardley’s Bad Review,Raises With Full-Page WaPo Ad

As I’m getting caught up on the stuff that happened while I was in Texas last weekend, I came across the PW Daily item about HarperCollins‘s full-page retort to Jonathan Yardley in the Washington Post. After Yardley panned Vikram Chandra‘s Sacred Games two weeks ago, describing it as “a massive deadweight of a novel,” the publisher took out an ad in last Friday’s Post (it’s a pop-up image!) to counter his negative review with an endorsement from the staff at DC indie Politics & Prose, who describe the nearly 1,000-page novel as “vastly entertaining.” Of course, the ad also does double duty in announcing Chandra’s appearance at the store tomorrow night…
