International Buy Indie Day Has Commenced

books.jpgBucking against lagging bookstore sales and the publishing recession, a network of independent booksellers have declared today International Buy Indie Day.

The directions are simple: “May 1st has been declared Buy Indie Day. The idea: buy one book–paperback, hardcover, audiobook, whatever you want!–at an independent bookstore near you.” If you need help finding a bookstore, IndieBound has created the Indie Store Finder that will locate bookstores in your neighborhood and link to them on a handy Google map.

One GalleyCat editor has already purchased a copy of “My Ears Are Bent” by the great Joseph Mitchell to celebrate. If you join the festivities, add your book purchase to the comments section for a round-up post.
