Jared Paul Stern Has At Least One Fan

When word came a few days ago about a book deal for Jared Paul Stern, GalleyCat’s Sarah was somewhat nonplussed: “The likelihood of anyone outside Manhattan (perhaps even midtown) caring a whit about what Stern might reveal is rather minimal, but if [Simon & Schuster] has money to burn, so be it…” The very next day, NYT reporter Julie Bosman also pooh-poohed the deal: “If recent publishing history is any guide, Stern Measures… will be a tough sell.”

Over at Eat the Press, though, Rachel Sklar thinks “the Times theory sucks.” She points out that Stern is unlikely to depict himself in the same light as disgraced journos Jayson Blair and Stephen Glass, nor does he appear to be planning a book similar to the ones other gossip reporters have put out recently. There’s also strong criticism of Bosman’s reporting on the piece, including an allegation that she refused to acknowledge Stern’s response to her query for comment.
