Orca Trainer John Hargrove Lands Book Deal

orcaJohn Hargrove, a killer whale trainer and a former employee of SeaWorld theme park, has landed a book deal with Macmillan.

Hargrove recently appeared in a documentary called Blackfish which explores the dangers that captive orcas pose for both the animals in question and human beings. In an interview with The Wrap, Hargrove claims that the movie only “scratched the surface.”

In his memoir, entitled Beneath the Surface, Hargrove will share “extraordinary stories of the whales he worked with and came to love, his experiences in and out of the water, and his determination to advocate for this being the last generation of killer whales in captivity.” The publisher will release the book in spring 2015.
