Kobo Enters Color Tablet Market

Last year, eReader device makers were boasting about how their black-and-white eInk screens were the best way to read a book. Times have changed. While still loyal to black-and-white eInk devices, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Sony and now Kobo, all have tablets available for eReading (in addition to their more traditional eReaders).

Barnes & Noble released the Nook Color last year, but the $249 device has some competition these days. Amazon announced the $199 Kindle Fire, a 7″ color touch screen entertainment device, at a press conference last month. It ships November 15th. Yesterday, Kobo threw their hat in the ring with the Kobo Vox, another 7″ color touchscreen tablet for reading books. The device, which is on presale for $199, ships October 28th.

eBookNewser has more about the Kobo Vox: “The tablet has a 7″ color touch screen and runs on Android. It has an eBooks, apps, video games, music and includes web browsing and email. Like the Nook Color and the Kindle Fire, the device has a digital newsstand for reading color magazines.Unlike the Kindle Fire (or the iPad for that matter). The Vox also plays movies and includes Kobo’s social reading platform Reading Life.”
