LA Website Rushes Writing Contest Into Production

janet-fitch-headshot.jpgOur friends at mediabistro.com’s FishbowlLA passed along an email about a new writing contest at LA.CityZine.com, where Los Angeles-based authors are invited to submit any sort of writing, as long as it’s in the vicinity of 1,000 words, and have it judged by Janet Fitch (left), who probably isn’t going to pull a <a href="http://www.mediabistro.com/galleycat/awards/you_try_impressing_zadie_smith_with_your_short_story_76740.asp"Zadie Smith and declare all the entries inadequate. The winner gets $250, passes to an advance screening of a Robert Downey, Jr. movie (not Iron Man, sadly), a signed copy of Fitch’s last novel, and a $100 gift certificate from Friendless.com. The zine’s editors didn’t leave much time for the city’s writers to get creative, though; the contest’s deadline is midnight Thursday.
