Those of us in New York City who remember the Cupcake Reading Series fondly know that co-founder Elizabeth Merrick has gone on to set up another reading series for women writers, Miss Grace's Salon, which meets monthly at Mo Pitkin's. Well, Cupcake's other creator, Lauren Cerand, has launched a new program of her own at one of Manhattan's most high-profile literary venues: the reading space at the Union Square Barnes & Noble. Upstairs at the Square debuts tonight at 7 p.m., as host Katherine Lanpher interviews and introduces performances by author Elizabeth Gilbert and singer-songwriter Jen Chapin. The space is pretty big, but if for some reason you can't get in, bn.com will be posting audio for this and the other two programs in the summer series.
