Infinite Jest: Has It Really Been 10 Years? Will tonight's panel discussion celebrating the tenth anniversary of the publication of David Foster Wallace's Infinite Jest turn out to be a supposedly fun thing that Onion head writer Todd Hanson, book critics Lev Grossman and Laura Miller, and actor John Krasinski will never do again? In all fairness to the participants, probably not. We can surmise that the talk won't include any brief interviews with hideous men, but might a girl with curious hair will turn up in the Housing Works audience? Here's what I do know: To celebrate the anniversary, Little, Brown has slashed the price on the trade paperback to $10, which if my math holds up is less than a penny for each of the 1,100-plus pages. Maybe that makes up for the fact that this news is making me feel really, really old. (I have to confess, though, much as I tried to reread the novel after getting my review copy last month, I was derailed by the latest crop of monster-sized books, like Thomas Pynchon's Against the Day and Vikram Chandra's Sacred Games...so now Wallace is taunting me pretty much like he did all through 1996.)
