Malcolm Gladwell: ‘Does Egypt Need Twitter?’

Over at the New Yorker, author Malcolm Gladwell argued that the popular uprising in Egypt should not be attributed to Twitter, Facebook, or any other Internet-related development.

Here’s more from the post: “People protested and brought down governments before Facebook was invented. They did it before the Internet came along. Barely anyone in East Germany in the nineteen-eighties had a phone—and they ended up with hundreds of thousands of people in central Leipzig and brought down a regime that we all thought would last another hundred years.”

What do you think?  All week we’ve been writing about how technology helped protesters tell their stories–from tools used to dodge the Internet crackdown to inspiring Twitter dispatches translated from the front lines of the protest.
