I don’t have much to add to the reports in Variety that George Miller is directing a Justice League movie, other than my fervent hope that the one-sheet might play off the classic Kevin Maguire cover to the first issue of the 1987 relaunch of the comic book (seen at left), with whichever DC Comics franchise heroes wind up in the final draft of the screenplay. “Beyond the Caped Crusader and Man of Steel, Justice League will likely feature Wonder Woman, the Flash and Aquaman,” notes Diane Garrett. “The Green Lantern is also featured in the comicbook,” she adds. Ahhhh, but which one? Just among the Earthlings, you’ve got four to choose from.* (“Designing costumes and casting for any one of those characters is hard enough,” observes Variety blogger Tom McLean, “and we’re not even onto the idea of who the villain would be.”)
Chances are, though, that the poster art will more likely be modeled on something like this Alex Ross group portrait. And that’s okay, too.
*To stave off angry emails from any fanboys who might be reading: That’s right, four—Hal, Guy, Jon, and Kyle. Alan Scott doesn’t count for the purposes of this discussion. Personally, I’d be rooting for Guy, if I didn’t think the Green Lantern concept was too origin-story-heavy to fit into an ensemble project of this scope anyway.
