Movie Rights Sold for Jessica Buchanan Book

Producers Elizabeth Fowler (Devil’s Knot) and Claudia Bluemhuber (The Host) have acquired the movie rights to Impossible Odds: The Kidnapping of Jessica Buchanan and her Dramatic Rescue by SEAL Team Six.

Sharlene Martin of Martin Literary & Media Management negotiated the deal with Tom Greenberg and Laurie Megery of Del, Shaw, Moonves, Tanaka, Finkelstein and Lezcano.

Author Anthony Flacco wrote the book about the Somalia rescue, as told by Jessica Buchanan and her husband Erik Landemalm. Flacco will write the script. Martin Literary & Media Management’s Sharlene Martin will produce alongside Fowler and Bluemhuber.

Here’s more about NY Times bestseller published by Atria Books:

Buchanan and Landemalm were performing humanitarian aid work in Eastern Africa when she was kidnapped in October 2011 by a band of Somalia land pirates. Buchanan fought to stay alive using deception and imagination, and her husband worked with the FBI and U.S. military to keep the pirates negotiating. With Buchanan’s health declining, Navy SEAL Team Six attacked the pirates’ compound and killed all nine of them, rescuing Buchanan.
