Julia Wertz, the writer/artist of The Fart Party, is editing a comic strip anthology for Three Rivers called I Saw You... filled with illustrated stories inspired by "missed connections" ads from Craigslist and the like, and she's looking for contributors. She's accepting one to four pages of black-and-white art all month long. Among the contributors already listed on the book's website are indie comics stars Keith Knight, Sam Henderson, Shannon Wheeler, and Peter Bagge.
The only catch? "If you use the complete text from an ad, you MUST have permission from the poster. The easiest way to do that is to just email and ask, and save the email," she advises. "If you just want to use a few sentences from an ad, if they are fairly general and you change any defining characteristics like names/places, you do not need permission."
Man, I hope somebody tells Matt Feazell and Evan Dorkin about this in time...
