Novelist Christopher Buckley Resigns After Blog Post

medium_boomsday.jpgA Daily Beast post just cost a political novelist his column at the National Review. Reader backlash over Christopher Buckley’s blogged endorsement of Obama ended up convincing the political novelist to leave the magazine that his father, William F. Buckley, founded.

According to Romenesko, Christopher’s essay, Sorry Dad, I’m Voting for Obama generated angry mail and canceled subscriptions at the conservative magazine. One reader commented: “Your father would be severely embarrassed, not only by your uninformed choice … but also by your extremely weak and spindly supporting arguments. It is, apparently, only his last name that has been passed to you.”

This article noted Buckley’s initial response:

“When he offered his resignation to the magazine’s editors, ‘I was sort of hoping for, ‘Well, let’s think about it,” Buckley said. ‘But to paraphrase Ronald Reagan, I didn’t leave the Republican Party, the Republican Party left me.’”
