On the Road Again
Just a reminder: Tomorrow afternoon, I’ll be in Austin, Texas, speaking on a panel called “Landing Ink, Airtime and Blog Buzz in Today’s Changing Media Environment: How Authors and Publishing Houses can Effectively Work with the Media to Position Themselves for Coverage” as part of the Writers League of Texas Agents & Editors Conference. My co-panelists include Sara Nelson of Publishers Weekly, Michael Merschel of the Dallas Morning News, and other Texas-based journalists.
I’ll also be speaking Monday afternoon, the first day of Manhattanville College’s Summer Writers Week, in a solo workshop called “Welcome to the Blog: Resistance Is Futile, You Will Be Assimilated.” Of course, that’s more than a little misleading—while I do believe every writer needs to be an active self-promoter, I don’t think blogging is the best solution for everyone, and for some authors it would be a disaster. So while I’ll be talking about blogs, book trailers, social networking, and twittering, it’s all going to boil down to giving voice to your authoritative passions and creating a “space” that makes it as easy as possible for readers to discover why you’re somebody they should care about.
