One More Child Star Turned WriterAnd We’ve Got Ourselves a Trend

robby-benson.jpgHarperEntertainment announced this morning that they’ve acquired a novel called Who Stole the Funny? from Robby Benson (left). The story seems to be ever so gently taken from Benson’s personal history as a former child star turned sitcom director, and Harper promises it’ll reveal “the all-too-true world of Hollywood from crazy writers, backstabbing directors and neurotic actors to the foul-mouthed executives who create your favorite feel-good TV shows.” After helming two motion pictures, Benson switched to television in 1990 with the HBO sitcom Dream On, and handled episodes of Ellen, Sabrina, Friends, and was last seen behind the camera of the Keith Carradine show Complete Savages. (Don’t worry; I’d never heard of it, either.) But for those of us of a certain age, of course, he’s always going to be Billy Joe…and then for those of us a bit younger, he’ll be the Beast. And be sure to check out the official Robby Benson website, which frontloads excerpts from his off-Broadway musical Open Heart.
