Peeking at The Books of Summer

Publishers Weekly turned to four influential buyers for major bookstores to pick out the should-be-big books this summer, and, no surprise, Michael Chabon‘s The Yiddish Policeman’s Union tops their list. Hell, I plunged into my galley the minute it showed up in my mailbox, and I agree: I have never read a novel that I was convinced had an equal chance of winning not only the Hugo AND the Edgar, but is also poised to make a strong run for the National Book Award, until now. Other veterans expected to do well with their new releases are Don Delillo, Khaled Hosseini, Ian McEwan, and Lisa See, while the newcomers to watch include Austin Grossman and Anita Amirrezvani. The article also cites Gunter Grass‘s memoir, Peeling the Onion, as “also noteworthy,” which in this context seems like code for “not expected to fly off shelves, even with the Nazi stormtrooper angle, but, come on, we can’t ignore a Nobel laureate!”
