Publishers Bet Twilight Will Sell Books

twilight.jpgPublishing folks around the world are placing holiday hopes in Stephenie Meyers’ Twilight series–counting on more sales on the eve of the vampire series’ big-screen debut.

According to Elizabeth Eulberg, the publicist for the four-book Twilight series, the books’ sales broke 25 million as the movie neared. She hoped that those figures would grow after the teenaged vampire saga hit the big screen. Eulberg explained to Reuters:

“We just hope the people who haven’t read the books who see the movie will read them … For the past three years we’ve been steadily getting more fans, so when ‘Breaking Dawn’ came out (in August) it sold 1.3 million copies on the first day in the U.S.”

Reportedly, the film cost a miraculous $36 million to shoot, and stars Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson. A blockbuster showing this weekend could help the franchise go down in history as a thrifty new breed of adaptation. (Via.)
