- Walden Media, which co-produced the movie THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE, is getting into book publishing in a partnership with Penguin Young Readers. Penguin will publish books adapted from Walden screenplays. In exchange, Walden will have access to Penguin's pipeline of manuscripts and books that have potential as film projects.
- As Ottakar's continues to recover from a "very difficult year" (and rumors circulate that HMV might table its bid to take them over) it's finally decided to take the belated plunge and launch a proper website and have a real online presence, which should be live this November.
- Simon and Schuster has "rebranded" its online division and renamed it S&S Digital, which the Book Standard reports will be headed by Kate Tentler, as senior vice president of digital media, formerly vice president and publisher of S&S Online.
- And Soft Skull, demonstrating its ability to think differently from larger publishers, is going ahead with a subscription model where for a mere $50, you can have access to their entire poetry catalog of 2006.
