Scene @ SFWA Fall Reception

Monday night I got to hang out at the annual New York reception for the Science Fiction Writers of America, where I finally got to say hello to Norman Spinrad, and also met up with Delia Sherman and Michael Swanwick. The party, held each November at the Society of Illustrators building, is an opportunity for authors, editors, and agents to mingle without all the added hubbub of a convention weekend, and it gives people a chance to find out what their colleagues have been up to over the last year. When I caught up with Diana Fox (with Shana Cohen), I learned that the former Writers House agent has branched out on her own, and is already quite close to making a deal for a celebrity-turned-author that sounded like a lot of fun—I was sworn to secrecy, but the indie film attached to the novel would make a perfect Sci-Fi Network original “horror” movie.
