Schulz Takes Charge at Harcourt
Harcourt announced late this morning that Andrea Schulz has been promoted to editor-in-chief, from which position she’ll supervise the house’s hardcover acquisitions. In her five years with the company, Schulz has already brought in authors like Melanie Rehak and David Callahan, while her buying habits this year have tended towards serious nonfiction, including books about the stolen antiquities at the Getty Museum, a look at the impact of reproductive technologies on the children they produce, a biography of Renaissance power broker Catherine Sforza, and a book by blogger Alice Feiring about her quest to upend wine snob Robert Parker’s hold on public opinion.
“Andrea has become indispensable to me and to Harcourt for her smarts, energy, taste, good judgment, and candor,” Harcourt publisher Rebecca Saletan said in the company’s statement. “I look forward to seeing in what new directions she takes our publishing program.”
