She Is For Cookies,That’s Good Enough for Me

ayunhalliday-withcookies.jpgI’m going to be out of town this weekend, but if I were sticking around, chances are good that I’d be heading out to Brooklyn’s Vox Pop café, where author Ayun Halliday will be holding a “Dirty Sugar Cookies Swap,” where folks are invited to bring their own homemade cookies and sample the ones other people bring while Halliday reads from her unpublished children’s book, Always Lots of Heinies at the Zoo. “Sensitive tots may have to cover their ears now and then,” she warns on her website, “as the holiday-themed Dirty Sugar chapter I’m planning to share is chock full of F-Bombs.”

To give you an idea of what it might be like, here’s a photo from another cookie swap earlier this month held at the Lower East Side feminist bookstore collective Bluestockings where Halliday read with Anna Lappé, the author of Grub: Ideas for an Urban Organic Kitchen (who might show up this weekend as well). So stop by the grocery store on your way home from the office tonight—the party doesn’t start until 7 p.m. Saturday, so you’ve got plenty of time to bake!
