SWEETSMOKE by David Fuller
My Novel of Color Pick for the Day is SWEETSMOKE, which although not written by an author of color, David Fuller, it does feature a black slave named Cassius. It’s a compelling story of avenge and intrigue that tells the tale of Cassius’ plight to right the wrongful death of a freed black woman who once saved his life.
It took Fuller 8 years of research to complete this novel and has often been compared to the likes of Cold Mountain. A recent Edgar Award nominee for Best New Author, David Fuller has made a remarkable transition between screenwriting and his debut novel.
