After the Harry Potter franchise was not nominated for Best Picture this year, Huffington Post writer Linda Kenney Baden suggested that fans of the boy wizard consider boycotting the Academy Awards.

Here’s an excerpt: “Enough already Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences– start nominating movies that are terrific — no matter the genre. Some of the nominated movies are boring, unwatchable, obtuse or totally uninteresting to moviegoers and not just the youth audience that makes up 80 percent of the cinema going public … Is it time for the movie public — the viewers — to engage in a national TV boycott?”

Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows Part 2 received three nominations for this year’s Academy Awards: Best Art Direction, Best Makeup and Best Visual Effects.

Historian Doris Kearns Goodwin‘s Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln will be adapted by Oscar-winning director Steven Spielberg.

Pulitzer/Tony-winning writer Tony Kushner will handle the screenplay. According to Deadline, “it is anticipated that the film will focus on the political collision of Lincoln and the powerful men of his cabinet on the road to abolition and the end of the Civil War.”

Spielberg has hired two Oscar-winning actors to star in this film. Daniel Day-Lewis will play President Abraham Lincoln and Sally Field will play First Lady Mary Todd Lincoln.

Actress and author Elizabeth Taylor has passed away today. She was 79-years-old. Above, we’ve embedded a trailer for one of her most celebrated films, Cleopatra.

In 2002, Taylor published My Love Affair with Jewelry which included photographs of her personal collection shot by John Bigelow Taylor. Amazon lists three books written by the star. Taylor also won two Academy Awards for literary adaptations.

Here’s more from The Washington Post: “She made more than 60 films and twice won the Oscar for best actress: as a call girl who meets with tragedy in BUtterfield 8 (1960), based on the John O’Hara novella; and as the braying, slovenly wife of a professor in Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1966), adapted from Edward Albee’s play about marital warfare. Virginia Woolf was a rare critical triumph for Ms. Taylor, whom reviewers often found insubstantial or overwrought.”
