In a series of recent tweets, novelist Ayelet Waldman bashed author Katie Roiphe–defending her husband, Michael Chabon, in the Twittersphere.

Here is the complete set of tweets: “I am so BORED with Katie Roiphe’s ‘I like the sexist drunk writers’ bull****. She happily trashes my husband, but guess what b****? … He not only writes rings and rings and rings around you, but the same rings around your drunken literary love objects … Really Roiphe? You seek ‘slightly greater obsession w/ the sublime sentence.’ My husband’s sentences are INFINITELY more sublime than yours.”

She ended the Twitter tirade with this note: “I do not like it when people insult those I love.”

Michael Chabon & Ayelet Waldman Collaborate on HBO Show

Michael Chabon (pictured, via) and Ayelet Waldman will collaborate on an HBO drama called Hobgoblin.

Here’s more from Variety: “[It is] an offbeat drama project at HBO that revolves around a motley group of conmen and magicians who use their skills at deception to battle Hitler and his forces during WWII.”

The married couple will write the script and act as executive producers together. This endeavor marks the first time the two have worked together as professionals.

The Other Woman, a film adaptation of Ayelet Waldman‘s book Love and Other Impossible Pursuits, debuts in February. The official trailer is embedded above–what do you think?

Black Swan star Natalie Portman plays the lead role alongside former Friends star Lisa Kudrow. Don Roos both directed and adapted the screenplay.

Doubleday released Love and Other Impossible Pursuits in 2006. Walman has also written a mystery series called The Mommy-Track Mysteries and several essays on the topic of modern motherhood. (Via Word & Film)

Following yesterday’s posts about authors confronting critics on the Internet, Salon.com writer Mary Elizabeth Williams published a fascinating history of the critic-bashing genre.

The story collected of other notable literary feuds from the 21st Century: Dave Eggers‘ email exchange with a NY Times reporter, Caleb Carr‘s angry words about a Salon review, and Stanley Crouch‘s confrontation with a well-known critic.

Finally, in a follow-up post Williams noted that author Ayelet Waldman had left an angry Twitter post about a recent review she received in The New Yorker: “May Jill Lepore rot in hell. That is all.” GalleyCat grabbed that screenshot from Waldman’s Twitter feed:
