Man Asian Literary Prize Longlist: Free Samples

The Man Asian Literary Prize longlist was announced today. For your reading pleasure, we’ve collected links to free samples of the books on the prestigious list.

The shortlist will be revealed in January and the winner will be announced in March.

It is an annual literary award given to the best novel by an Asian writer, either written in English or translated into English, and published in the previous calendar year … The winning author is awarded USD 30,000 and the translator (if any) USD 5,000. Submissions are invited through publishers based in any country.”

Publishers Raise Funds for Japan Relief

The publishing industry has continued to raise funds for the victims of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan.

Melville House launched its “Banana for Japan” campaign, donating the proceeds from Banana Yoshimoto‘s forthcoming novel, The Lake. Last week, the indie publisher had bestowed all the profits from sales made through its website ($5,000) to relief agencies tending to victims.

F+W Media commenced a 24-hour charity campaign today. The company has pledged 50% of profits earned from the sale of products and services to the American Red Cross. Interested parties should shop at one of the company’s 23 internet stores. O’Reilly mounted a sale and donated all revenues to earthquake relief.
