Little, Brown Lists Mysterious Book: Untitled by Anonymous

Little, Brown & Company is building suspense around a new release, sending bookstore buyers with a coy description of the book: Untitled by Anonymous.

In an email, the publisher described the book as “the inside story of life with one of the most controversial figures of our time.” The New York Times speculated that Bernard Madoff might be the subject of the book and Catherine Hooper and Laurie Sandell could be the authors. What do you think?

Here is more from the Times: “[One clue] suggests that the topic could be Bernard L. Madoff because Ms. Hooper was identified in recent interviews in The New York Times and People magazine as the glamorous, dark-haired fiancée of Andrew Madoff, the younger son of Mr. Madoff. Ms. Sandell is a freelance magazine writer and graphic novelist in Brooklyn, according to her Web site.”

Memoirist Sheryl Weinstein’s Husband on “Madoff’s Other Secret”

9780312618377.jpgAs his wife tours the talk show circuit with her new memoir about her affair with Bernard Madoff, Manhattan businessman Ron Weinstein spoke with The Daily Beast about “Madoff’s Other Secret.”

His wife Sheryl Weinstein just published that tell-all memoir with squeamish details about the fraudulent investment expert’s sex life, but Weinstein said his wife needed to write the book or turn into a “basket case.” She had been depressed over Madoff’s unraveled financial scam, which had ruined her professional life.

Here’s more from the interview: “Ron says he won’t do anything to hurt the book’s sales. ‘Half of the profits are mine,’ he points out, and he’s glad some of his friends are buying the book, even if its content rankles. Not that he’s actually read it. After thumbing through it looking for his name, he came across passages describing Sheryl’s ‘sexual advances with Bernie’ and decided it was best if he didn’t know the details.”

Bernard Madoff Sentenced; Books To Come

logo-main.gifFederal judge Denny Chin sentenced Bernard Madoff to 150 years in prison today. In March, Madoff plead guilty to eleven criminal counts related to his collapsed Ponzi scheme.

The WSJ reports that the judge approved a “preliminary forfeiture order” of $170 billion against the former investor, reportedly leaving him “penniless.” There’s nothing left to do except write a book. Back in January, eight different writers were shopping books about the scandal.

The website DailyLit has already serialized a book about the Madoff scandal, here’s a link: “The stranger-than-fiction story of how one well-respected money manager built a business empire over decades by means of a classic Ponzi scheme. (This is a fraudulent investment strategy which pays returns to early investors with money put in later by subsequent investors.)”
