Bill O’Reilly to Publish ‘Killing Jesus’

In the same week a Bill O’Reilly made headlines with a highly rated National Geographic adaptation of Killing Lincoln, the Fox News host has revealed his next book.

Our sibling blog TVNewser has the complete story:

How do you follow up two New York Times best-sellers about the assassination of beloved U.S. Presidents? How about a book about the assassination of Jesus himself? Fox News host Bill O’Reilly‘s next book will be Killing Jesus, which “will tell the story of Jesus of Nazareth as a beloved and controversial young revolutionary brutally killed by Roman soldiers,” according to the publisher. The book will be co-written by Martin Dugard, who also co-wrote O’Reilly’s last two books Killing Lincoln and Killing Kennedy.

NYT Creates Separate Middle Grade & YA Bestsellers Lists

The New York Times will divide its Children’s Bestsellers list for chapter books, creating separate middle grade and YA lists. NYT editor Pamela Paul announced the news last night on Twitter. We’ve embedded her three tweets below.

The newly formed middle grade and young adult lists will account for both eBook and print book sales. However, the picture books list will continue to exclusively spotlight on hardcover titles. What do you think?

The Fault in Our Stars author John Green offered this comment on his tumblr page: “In news that only matters to publishing nerds, the New York Times has changed its bestseller lists to become format neutral (so it counts e-book sales and doesn’t distinguish between hardcover and paperback)…Those of you who follow my tumblr closely may know that for many weeks, I have been chasing Bill O’Reilly and promising to destroy him. But now we have been placed on DIFFERENT LISTS.” (via Publishers Weekly)

They grow vegetables, they tend chickens, they make chocolate. And they sing. Ironically, for a community that has taken a vow of silence, the monks have become world-famous for their glorious voices, raised in ancient chants whose effect on both singer and listener is so profound it is known as ‘the beautiful mystery.’” (August 2012)

Glenn Beck Trades Insults with Stephen King

On conservative host Bill O’Reilly‘s show last night, author and conservative personality Glenn Beck took a couple jabs at novelist Stephen King. Watch in the Mediaite video embedded above.

In his Entertainment Weekly column, King threw the first punch by describing Beck: “He’s crazy, but like those urban nut cakes, he actually seems to believe what he is saying.”

Beck responded with a few jabs of his own on The O’Reilly Factor. When asked about King, Beck replied: “He’s the guy that usually when I release my books at the same time, he’s No. 2.” Newsbusters has the complete show transcript, if you don’t want to watch the video.

Bill O’Reilly’s Anti-Book Club

When conservative host Bill O’Reilly bashed author and journalist Rick Perlstein on television, the writer (pictured via K.A. Westphal) woke up with some vicious hate mail from readers–like an Anti-Book Club.

In a Newsweek essay, Perlstein, author of the 2008 book, “Nixonland The Rise of a President and the Fracturing of America,” describes what happens after O’Reilly criticizes a writer. As we noted yesterday, the television host rules a powerful author platform, and the article gives a glimpse into the anger simmering in his audience.

Here’s more, as Perlstein describes the televised take-down: “O’Reilly had run a segment on an article I published in the July 20 Newsweek, along with a picture–my author photograph–and a description of me–’this Perlstein,’ who had written ‘some book no one heard of,’ spit out with such venom that more than one friend of mine thought of Sasha Baron Cohen‘s Borat singing about throwing a Jew down a well.”

Five Million Bill O’Reilly Broadway Hardcovers in Print

In these dark days for publishing, one political author can still sell books. Today Broadway Books announced that Fox News anchor Bill O’Reilly has more than one million copies in print of his memoir, “A Bold Fresh Piece of Humanity“—entering its 18th printing since the book debuted last September.

O’Reilly now has five million hardcover Broadway books in print, and his memoir stayed on the New York Times Hardcover Nonfiction Bestsellers list for 39 weeks. His television show averages 4,770,000 total viewers per night, an increasingly rare author platform in this digital age.

Gerald Howard, the anchor’s Broadway editor, had this statement: “As an author, Bill has demonstrated time and again an uncanny ability to connect with his audience, with candor, insight, and disarming humor … We are thrilled that his fans have come to ‘A Bold Fresh Piece of Humanity’—especially since it is by far his most personal book yet—in such great numbers and congratulate him on his achievement.”

Bill O’Reilly Plans Barack Obama Book

In a Page Six interview, popular right-wing pundit Bill O’Reilly said is planning a book about President Barack Obama to be released next year.

The talk show host said he reads two or three books every week. O’Reilly has sold millions of copies of his books, and there are eight titles currently sold on his website, including “The O’Reilly Factor for Kids.”

Here’s more from the interview: “My next book, out the latter part of 2010, is on Obama. He’s becoming a historical figure not because he’s black, but because his liberal agenda is taking the country in a direction we’ve never been before.” (Via Michael Calderone)
