How do you follow up two New York Times best-sellers about the assassination of beloved U.S. Presidents? How about a book about the assassination of Jesus himself? Fox News host Bill O’Reilly‘s next book will be Killing Jesus, which “will tell the story of Jesus of Nazareth as a beloved and controversial young revolutionary brutally killed by Roman soldiers,” according to the publisher. The book will be co-written by Martin Dugard, who also co-wrote O’Reilly’s last two books Killing Lincoln and Killing Kennedy.

The 8pmET airing drew a 2.6 rating, tied for second-best ever for the channel. In the A25-54 demo, the 2-hour film drew a 1.1, more than 175% higher than the channel’s 8–10 p.m average so far this year. NatGeo has already announced it is producing a factual drama based on O’Reilly’s best-selling “Killing Kennedy.

Kenneth Wright will join Penguin Books for Young Readers as vice president and publisher of Viking Children’s Books. Prior to this move, Wright worked as a literary agent at Writers House. Some of the writers and illustrators he has worked with include Caldecott Medalist Allen Say, Where Things Come Back author John Corey Whaley and Charles and Emma YA novelist Deborah Heiligman.

Regina Hayes will step down as president and publisher of the imprint, becoming editor-at-large. Hayes has been in children’s publishing for 30 years. She has worked with New York Times bestselling author Sarah Dessen, Speak author Laurie Halse Anderson and Max & Ruby series creator Rosemary Wells.

On conservative host Bill O’Reilly‘s show last night, author and conservative personality Glenn Beck took a couple jabs at novelist Stephen King. Watch in the Mediaite video embedded above.

In his Entertainment Weekly column, King threw the first punch by describing Beck: “He’s crazy, but like those urban nut cakes, he actually seems to believe what he is saying.”

Beck responded with a few jabs of his own on The O’Reilly Factor. When asked about King, Beck replied: “He’s the guy that usually when I release my books at the same time, he’s No. 2.” Newsbusters has the complete show transcript, if you don’t want to watch the video.

The talk show host has a genre-spanning career–there are many titles currently sold on his website, from Culture Warrior to The O’Reilly Factor for Kids.

In a Newsweek essay, Perlstein, author of the 2008 book, “Nixonland The Rise of a President and the Fracturing of America,” describes what happens after O’Reilly criticizes a writer. As we noted yesterday, the television host rules a powerful author platform, and the article gives a glimpse into the anger simmering in his audience.

O’Reilly now has five million hardcover Broadway books in print, and his memoir stayed on the New York Times Hardcover Nonfiction Bestsellers list for 39 weeks. His television show averages 4,770,000 total viewers per night, an increasingly rare author platform in this digital age.
