Macmillan Launches Crime Fiction Community Site

Macmillan has created a new online community for crime fiction and nonfiction readers, CriminalElement.com.

Here’s more from the press release: “At launch there will be excerpts, original fiction and articles by authors Joseph Finder, Steve Hamilton, Rosemary Harris, Charles Ardai, Luis Alberto Urrea and more…CriminalElement.com is ‘publisher neutral,’ meaning that it will include author participation from all publishers and other content creators, and is not exclusive to Macmillan authors.”

Crime writers from any publisher can submit original short stories and pre-release excerpts to senior manager Liz Edelstein. This site will also have a Facebook page and Twitter page.

Hard Case Crime to Relaunch with Titan Publishing

Hard Case Crime has cut a new deal with the U.K.-based Titan Publishing; the hardboiled crime and thriller imprint will relaunch in 2011.

Titan specializes in glossy TV companion books and cinema reference titles. They have published guides to Lost, 24, Firefly, Battlestar Galactica, Smallville, and many other television shows. They also published reference books like The Alfred Hitchcock Story and The Winston Effect: The Art & History of the Stan Winston Studio. Shots eZine has the scoop: “Hard Case Crime will relaunch in September/October 2011 with four new books, including CHOKE HOLD by Christa Faust (sequel to her Edgar Award-nominated MONEY SHOT), QUARRY’S EX by Max Allan Collins (the latest in the popular series of hit man novels by the author of “Road to Perdition”), and two never-before-published novels by MWA Grand Masters (names to be announced shortly). Ace reporter Doc Wasabassco was on the scene at the Hard Case Crime 50th Anniversary party last week at the Explorers club.

Pulp editor Charles Ardai was talking up a new series of books called The Adventures of Gabriel Hunt. The series is intended to be to pulp adventure fiction what Hard Case Crime is to pulp crime fiction with gorgeous painted covers and seat-of-the-pants storytelling all in the service of the sort of globetrotting, high-adrenaline yarn you might have found once in a novel by H. Rider Haggard or Indiana Jones film (the first three, not the last one).

Hanging out in the Explorers Club was like being in Bruce Wayne’s Manor, made all the better by the sultry GiGi La Femme singing torch songs.

The first Gabriel Hunt novel will arrive in bookstores next May and you can see Gigi La Femme perform live (with a lot less clothing) in Revealed Burlesque this Wednesday night at Under St. Marks theater in NYC.
