Looking for a new kind of Halloween costume this year? The Take Back Halloween site is filled with literary and historic ideas for women. The Goddesses & Legends section of the site is packed with great costume ideas, including Asase Yaa, Athena, Freyja and Isis.
If you want to adapt your own costume from myths and legends, we’ve linked to some free eBooks that can help inspire your Halloween costume this year. Be sure to check out our list of costumes based on books as well.
Here’s more about Take Back Halloween: “Take Back Halloween is the first venture from the Real History Project, which was conceived in 2010 as a series of projects to popularize knowledge of the past—the real stuff, not just the Dead White Male version of history. It was created by Suzanne Scoggins, a writer and feminist specializing in women’s history. The plan is for a variety of projects under the Real History umbrella: websites, videos, books, and grassroots events.”
