How ‘The Accidental Billionaires’ Became ‘The Social Network’

Ben Mezrich‘s The Accidental Billionaires inspired the Golden Globe nominated film, The Social Network. However, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg did not play a part in making either Mezrich’s book or the film version.

According to The New York Times, the filmmakers wooed Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin to make the movie happen. In fact, producer Dana Brunetti claims that Saverin’s involvement was secured after partying with the stars at the Hollywood premiere for another Mezrich-book-turned movie, 21.

Here’s more from the article: “Mr. Saverin has stayed mostly mum about his involvement — writing in an essay for CNBC.com that ‘the true takeaway for me was that entrepreneurship and creativity, however complicated, difficult or tortured to execute, are perhaps the most important drivers of business today and the growth of our economy.’”
