Christopher Walken to Play King Louie in ‘The Jungle Book’ Adaptation

Jungle BookChristopher Walken has signed on to star in the new Jungle Book movie re-make.

The Oscar-winning actor will play the orangutan King Louie in Disney’s live action adaptation. TheaterMania reports that the movie will be released in October 2015.

As we previously reportedIron Man director Jon Favreau will helm this project. The cast also includes Idris ElbaLupita Nyong’o, and Scarlett Johansson. Who would you cast as Rudyard Kipling’s orphan “man cub” character, Mowgli?

Two ‘Jungle Book’ Adaptations Set to Hit Hollywood

jungleTwo movie studios, Disney and Warner Bros., plan to create new adaptations of Rudyard Kipling’s beloved classic, The Jungle Book.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Warner Bros. production will mark the feature directorial debut of Lord of the Rings actor Andy Serkis. This project features a screenplay written by Callie Kloves. Her father Steve Kloves, the screenwriter of the Harry Potter film franchise, will serve as a producer.

Disney’s live action/CG hybrid version will be helmed by Iron Man director Jon Favreau. Long Walk to Freedom actor Idris Elba has signed on to lend his voice as the evil tiger, Shere Khan. Other potential cast members include Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o and The Avengers actress Scarlett Johansson.

 

Nelson Mandela Stars in Comic Book

MANDELATribBluewater Productions has released a comic book biography starring former South African President Nelson Mandela. Tribute: Nelson Mandela,a 32-page comic, features writing by Clay and Susan Griffith and illustrations by Pablo Martinena.

Publisher Darren G. Davis had this statement in the press release: “Not only is this a great way to understand the importance of his contribution to the world, but a great tool for kids to read about him in a different medium. Our biography comic books are now taught in schools and libraries for students and reluctant readers.”

New ‘Thor: The Dark World’ Trailer Released

Chris Hemsworth returns as Thor in the new trailer for Thor: The Dark World. The cast for the blockbuster comic book adaptation includes Natalie PortmanTom HiddlestonStellan SkarsgardIdris Elba and Anthony Hopkins.

Alan Taylor directed the film, a filmmaker who also directed six episodes of Game of Thrones for HBO. Here’s more about the movie, released October 30th:

Tyler Perry Stars in Trailer for Alex Cross Adaptation

Director and actor Tyler Perry stars in the new trailer for Alex Cross, a James Patterson adaptation that features Lost hero Matthew Fox as a brilliant killer.

Entertainment Weekly has more: “While I think we should all give Perry more than a two-minute chance to prove he’s an action star, I can’t help but watch this and imagine Idris Elba (The Wire, Prometheus) on Fox’s tail. Elba was set to star in the reboot when David Twohy (A Perfect Getaway, Pitch Black), was the director, but when QED International became a producer, Perry was cast and director Rob Cohen (The Fast and the Furious and xXx) took over the helm.”

Idris Elba Hints at Luke Cage Comic Book Adaptation

In an interview with Total Film, The Wire star Idris Elba hinted that he could play the comic book superhero Luke Cage as part of his movie deal with Marvel Comics.

Check it out: “‘I wouldn’t mind having a crack at bringing Blade back, personally’ He says with a wry smile, echoed with a laugh from his manager. ‘But erm, there’s a couple of things there that they have… Luke Cage is… very interesting.’”

Elba earned legions of fans (and countless YouTube videos) for his portrayal of bookish gangster Stringer Bell in HBO’s The Wire. In the video embedded above, Elba explained why he canceled his Twitter account. (Via io9)
