The 2013 Children’s Choice Book Award winners have been revealed. Jeff Kinney took author of the year award and John Green won the teen book of the year prize.

The Children’s Book Council and Every Child a Reader announced the winners of the sixth annual Children’s Choice Book Awards (CCBAs) at a charity gala benefitting Every Child a Reader in New York City last night. The announcement is an annual highlight of Children’s Book Week (May 13-19, 2013) as the CCBAs is the only national book awards program where the winning titles are selected by kids and teens. Young readers across the country voted in record numbers for their favorite books, author, and illustrator at bookstores, school libraries, and at bookweekonline.com, casting more than 1,000,000 votes.

Kids Can Vote for Children’s Choice Book Awards

The 2013 finalists for the Children’s Choice Book Awards have been revealed. Kids can vote from March 19th to May 9th.

The winners will be announced live at the Children’s Choice Book Awards gala on May 13th. Nominees have been divided into four groups classified by different school grades.

In the Author of the Year category, middle-grade fiction writers and young-adult novelists dominate. The nominees include The Fault in Our Stars by John Green, Diary of a Wimpy Kid 7: The Third Wheel by Jeff Kinney, Wonder by R.J. Palacio, The Heroes of Olympus 3: The Mark of Athena by Rick Riordan, and Insurgent by Veronica Roth.

‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid’ Series To Be Released As eBooks

The Diary of a Wimpy Kid book series by Jeff Kinney will soon be available digitally. The first six volumes in the series are available for preorder from Amazon and will be available on October 30th.

Praising the eBook release, Amazon.com children’s book editor Seira Wilson said it was “our top-selling kid’s series for 2012.” Kinney, who has kept his books from going digital thus far, told the Associated Press: ”The decision came after a lot of thought and deliberation … I am very excited about this. It feels like the time is right.”

Kinney’s latest edition in the series, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Third Wheel, which comes out November 13th, will be released as both a hardcover and an eBook. The publisher ABRAMS’ Amulet imprint at has ordered a first printing of 6.5 million copies. (Via Sarah Weinman).

James Patterson Leads World’s Top-Earning Authors List

Forbes has just released its annual list of the World’s Top-Earning Authors. We’ve listed the top five writers below, along with their income–follow this link to see the whole list.

In his feature about the list, journalist Jeff Bercovici singled out Suzanne Collins, E.L. James and J.K. Rowling as rising stars on the list. Here’s an excerpt from the article:

At the height of “Fifty Shades” mania, the erotic novels were estimated to be generating as much as $1.3 million per week for their author, E.L. James. And that’s not counting the $5 million she received from Universal Pictures and Focus Films for the theatrical rights. Add it all up and James is assured of a place near the top of next year’s top authors list. (Perhaps “Twilight” author Stephenie Meyer deserves a cut of that? James’s books originated as works of “Twilight” fan fiction.)

New Diary of a Wimpy Kid Book Coming in November

The Third Wheel, the seventh book in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, will be released on November 13th. ABRAMS’ Amulet imprint at has ordered a first printing of 6.5 million copies.

In The Third Wheel, star character Greg Heffley will explore the wonders and complications of middle school romance. With this new installment, author Jeff Kinney promised that “the Wimpy universe will be changed in a way that will surprise fans of the series.”

Last month, Kinney was crowned “Author of the Year” at the Children’s Choice Book Awards gala in New York City. The series earned him $17 million in 2011 and a spot on Forbes’ list of the highest paid writers.

Wimpy Kid series author and illustrator Jeff Kinney was crowned “Author of the Year” at the Children’s Choice Book Awards gala in New York City. This marked the second year in a row that a middle grade author has emerged victorious in this category.

Forbes Unveils Highest Paid Authors List

This week Forbes published their annual list of the highest paid writers. Novelist James Patterson leads the pack with $84 million–a $14 million increase from last year.

Here’s more from the article: “The jump comes courtesy of a 17-book, $150 million deal Patterson signed with his publisher, Hachette Book Group, in 2009. The peerlessly prolific Patterson, who works with a team of co-authors to boost his output, published 10 of those books during this period. All told, including his backlist, he had an astonishing 20 titles on PW’s year-end lists of bestsellers, comprising more than 10 million copies.”

Like Patterson, Stephenie Meyer and John Grisham write both children’s and adult books; they both made the cut raking in $21 million and $18 million respectively. The authors on the list who write exclusively for children include Rick Riordan, Jeff Kinney, Suzanne Collins and J.K. Rowling. The list included three members of the Kindle Million Club. What Is Your Most Anticipated Book This Year?

The Millions collected a list of 66 highly anticipated new titles coming out in the second half of 2011. The listed included George R.R. Martin with A Dance with Dragons in July, Haruki Murakami with 1Q84 in October and Stephen King with 11/22/63 in November.

Here’s more from the article: “But, even as fans look forward to books from these favorites, there will undoubtedly be many new discoveries in the coming months as well, some of which, hopefully, we can introduce you to today. The list that follows isn’t exhaustive — no list could be — but these are some of the books we’re looking forward to.”

The list excluded forthcoming children’s and YA books. In the coming months we will see Every Thing On It by Shel Silverstein (September), The Son of Neptune by Rick Riordan (October) and Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Cabin Fever by Jeff Kinney (November). Jeff Kinney to Embark on Tour for Diary of a Wimpy Kid #5

Diary of a Wimpy Kid author Jeff Kinney will embark on a national tour to promote the fifth book in his series, The Ugly Truth. The title comes out on November 9th. Five million copies have been ordered for the first printing.

Publisher’s Weekly has more: “The launch for The Ugly Truth will take place at BookPeople in Austin on the book’s on-sale date; the store will have a kid-sized version of the Cheese Touch board game, a dunk tank, and other activities on hand for the event.”

On November 21st, Kinney will be in New York City at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade for Greg Heffley’s debut as a giant balloon. The wimpy kid will appear alongside other literary characters including Horton the Elephant and Spider-Man. Right now, readers enter a sweepstakes for a trip to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade.

Alice Versus a Wimpy Kid

It was a big weekend for adaptations of children’s books as Alice in Wonderland took $34.5 at the box office and Diary of a Wimpy Kid took $21.8 million at movie theaters around the country.

According to Hollywood Reporter, the Tim Burton-directed adaptation of Lewis Carroll‘s story has earned $265.8 million in 17 days. Film executives were happy with Wimpy Kid‘s debut–the first in a series of books written by Jeff Kinney. Follow this link to watch the trailer.

Here’s more about the adaptation from the article: “Based on the first book in a kids’ literary series, PG-rated ‘Kid’ drew audiences evenly divided between males and females, and comprised 59 percent of patrons under age 25. ‘It’s a testament to the fan base this property enjoys,’ Fox senior vp distribution Chris Aronson said.”

Stephenie Meyer Sold 16 Percent of all Books Last Quarter

Stephenie Meyer‘s Twilight series ruled the top four bestselling books for the first quarter of 2009. According to USA Today, one in every seven books sold last quarter was a Meyer book–16 percent of all books sold in the first months of 2009.

The vampire series launched a film franchise last year as well, receiving a Hollywood book sale boost like the “Watchmen” graphic novel. Here are the next five books on the first quarter bestseller list, from the article:
