Matthew Lysiak To Publish ‘Newtown: An American Tragedy’

Journalist Matthew Lysiak has landed a book deal for Newtown: An American Tragedy.

Gallery Books will publish the nonfiction account on December 10, 2013, the book coming out nearly one year after Adam Lanza’s horrific attack at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

Martin Literary & Media Management president Sharlene Martin negotiated the deal. Gallery Books publisher Jennifer Bergstrom acquired the book in a ”in a significant deal.” Tricia Boczkowski will edit.

Michele Martin Returns to Simon & Schuster

Michele Martin has been named VP and associate publisher for Simon & Schuster’s Gallery Books Group.

Martin worked at the publisher from 1994 until 1999, serving as associate publisher at the Simon & Schuster imprint. Publisher Louise Burke explained the move in a memo:

Michele most recently founded and ran MDM Management, which will now be assumed by CSG Literary Partners.  Michele has also held positions as Executive Vice President at Avalon, at Langenscheidt and Doubleday, where she created and oversaw the Main Street Books imprint. Michele’s wide-ranging experience in sales, marketing and general management of a variety of imprints, and in publishing both fiction and nonfiction will serve the Gallery, Pocket and Threshold imprints well. In this position she will work closely with Gallery Books Publisher, Jennifer Bergstrom, Publicity Director, Jennifer Robinson and our newly-appointed Marketing Director, Liz Psaltis.

Mother of 90210, Tori Spelling

tori spelling.jpgSimon Spotlight Entertainment just announced that it will publish a second book with Tori Spelling, tentatively titled Mommywood. The new book will be a follow-up to her New York Times bestselling memoir, sTori Telling, but will focus on her life as a mom.

Oxygen’s “Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood” garnered the highest rated season premiere and most watched season debut of an Oxygen original series ever and recently, an episode featuring Tori and Dean’s son’s birthday party was recorded as Oxygen’s most watched telecast in the history of the network in its key demographic of women 18-49. The CW will also air an updated spin-off to Beverly Hills, 90210 beginning in Fall 2008 and Tori is set to reprise her role as Donna Martin.

Jennifer Bergstrom at SSE negotiated the deal with Dan Strone, CEO of Trident Media Group, which includes world rights. Patrick Price, Senior Editor, will edit the book which is scheduled for publication in April 2009.

SSE Names Carl Raymond Associate Publisher

Simon Spotlight Entertainment announced yesterday that Carl Raymond has been named the imprint’s associate publisher, effective September 5. Raymond, most recently Publishing Director for adult lifestyle titles at DK Publishing in New York and London, will work with sales, marketing, and publicity to coordinate consumer focused campaigns for SSE titles, and will also acquire select titles for the imprint.

“I’m thrilled to have found an associate publisher who has the experience and sense of humor to fit into the SSE fold,” said Jennifer Bergstrom, Vice President and Publisher of SSE. “Carl has a terrific understanding of the marketplace, a great background working with sales and marketing, and extensive experience working with pop culture titles.”
