Comic book fans downloading comics through iOS apps cannot download issue No. 12 of Saga, Brian K. Vaughan‘s critically acclaimed series with Image Comics.

UPDATE: comiXology CEO David Steinberger has responded to the controversy (read his complete statement below): “After hearing from Apple this morning, we can say that our interpretation of its policies was mistaken. You’ll be glad to know that Saga #12 will be available on our App Store app soon.”

A number of publishing industry veterans made new career moves this week.

Kenneth Wright will join Penguin Books for Young Readers as vice president and publisher of Viking Children’s Books. Prior to this move, Wright worked as a literary agent at Writers House. Some of the writers and illustrators he has worked with include Caldecott Medalist Allen Say, Where Things Come Back author John Corey Whaley and Charles and Emma YA novelist Deborah Heiligman.

Regina Hayes will step down as president and publisher of the imprint, becoming editor-at-large. Hayes has been in children’s publishing for 30 years. She has worked with New York Times bestselling author Sarah Dessen, Speak author Laurie Halse Anderson and Max & Ruby series creator Rosemary Wells.

Ray Bradbury died today, but writers around the world are reflecting on this great author’s legacy. President, science fiction fan and author Barack Obama shared this tribute:

For many Americans, the news of Ray Bradbury’s death immediately brought to mind images from his work, imprinted in our minds, often from a young age.  His gift for storytelling reshaped our culture and expanded our world.  But Ray also understood that our imaginations could be used as a tool for better understanding, a vehicle for change, and an expression of our most cherished values.  There is no doubt that Ray will continue to inspire many more generations with his writing, and our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.

IDW swept the best writer and best writer/artist category at the 2011 Eisner Awards at Comic-Con International in San Diego this weekend. Follow the links below for free samples of books by some of the winners.

Joe Hill won Best Writer for Locke & Key and Darwyn Cooke won Best Writer/Artist for Richard Stark’s Parker: The Outfit (IDW). In addition, 75 Years of DC Comics: The Art of Modern Mythmaking by Paul Levitz won Best Comics-Related Book and Abominable Charles Christopher by Karl Kerschl won the Best Digital Comic award.
