The National Coalition Against Censorship (NCAC) has collected birthday wishes for the legendary author, Judy Blume.

The Giver author Lois Lowry, former National Ambassador of Young People’s Literature Jon Scieszka and Internet Girls series writer Lauren Myracle all contributed messages.

‘The Giver’ Film Adaptation ‘Is Finally on the Road’

For the past 15 years, fans have circulated rumors about a film adaptation of Lois Lowry‘s The Giver. In an interview with studio 360, Lowry confirmed that the movie “is finally on the road.”

Oscar-winning actor Jeff Bridges has been an advocate for this project for many years. He will play the title character. At the moment, studio executives are auditioning young actors for the lead role of Jonas.

Lowry first published The Giver in 1993. The book won the Newbery Medal in 1994. The full quartet includes Gathering Blue (2000), The Messenger (2004) and the author’s latest release, Son (2012).

Chris Van Allsburg on Picture Book Writing

More than 25 years ago, children’s author Chris Van Allsburg published The Mysteries of Harris Burdick, a collection of 14 mysterious illustrations.

For The Chronicles of Harris Burdick, Van Allsburg teamed up with thirteen fellow writers to create short stories inspired by these drawings. The group of authors include Sherman Alexie, M.T. Anderson, Kate DiCamillo, Cory Doctorow, Jules Feiffer, Stephen King, Tabitha King, Lois Lowry, Gregory Maguire, Walter Dean Myers, Linda Sue Park, Louis Sachar, Jon Scieszka and an introduction by Lemony Snicket.

This powerhouse group of writers has collectively won one Pulitzer Prize, three National Book Awards, five Newbery Medals and several Caldecotts.

Jeff Bridges Hopes To Adapt Lowis Lowry’s ‘The Giver’

Oscar-winning actor Jeff Bridges will team up with producers Nikki Silver and Neil Koenigsberg to adapt Lois Lowry‘s The Giver. According to Variety, Bridges and Silver “came close” to making the feature film back in 2006.

Here’s more from the article: “They had been developing a feature version of the popular book for nearly a decade before it wound up at Warner Bros., which ponied up nearly $1 million to set up the tome with Red Wagon’s Douglas Wick and Lucy Fisher in 2007. When the rights became available again, Bridges and Silver stepped up to reacquire them.”

Lowry set The Giver in a dystopian world starring 12-year-old Jonas. The book won the 1994 Newbery Medal and the 1996 William Allen White Award.
