Anne Rice to Publish Vook; More Janklow & Nesbit Authors to Follow

im300_ramplinggate.jpgNovelist Anne Rice will release her first Vook on March 1st, a digital version of her 1984 vampire story, “The Master of Rampling Gate.” The mulitmedia edition will sell for $6.99.

As we reported last year, Vooks combine text and video content in a new digital package. The company has already worked with Simon & Schuster and HarperStudio. A CNBC article notes that the Vook will help establish “a strategic publishing relationship” between the author’s literary representation (Janklow & Nesbit Associates) and Vook. The article didn’t name names, but the agency has worked with a stellar list, including: ZZ Packer, Malcolm Gladwell, and Edward P. Jones.

Here’s an excerpt from the article: “‘They (Vook) came in about two months ago and showed us some of their wares. I think it’s very interesting and I think the publishing world needs to really start looking for new ways to find readers,’ said Lynn Nesbit of Janklow & Nesbit, who said other writers at the agency expressed strong interest in video books, although she declined to provide names.’”

Carter Memoir to S&S

PW Daily reports that former President Jimmy Carter has just signed with Simon & Schuster‘s Alice Mayhew for a memoir. The untitled work is an account of Carter’s post-presidential career, and will describe his efforts, and those of the Carter Center, on behalf of some of the most neglected issues of the past 25 years-from the Middle East to North Korea, Sudan, Bosnia, Herzegovina, and China. Carter and the Center have monitored more than 65 elections and worked throughout Africa to eradicate disease. S&S has added the title to its fall schedule. Mayhew acquired North American rights to the new book from Lynn Nesbit at Janklow & Nesbit for an undisclosed figure.
