Filmmaker Michael Almereyda Adapts William Shakespeare’s ‘Cymbeline’

Filmmaker Michael Almereyda has written and directed a film adaptation of William Shakespeare’s play, Cymbeline. We’ve embedded the full trailer above–what do you think?

According to Indiewire, the cast includes Ethan Hawke, Ed Harris, Milla Jovovich, Penn Badgley, Anton Yelchin, John Leguizamo, Dakota Johnson, James Ransone, and Delroy Lindo. The movie premiered at the Venice Film Festival on September 3rd. A theatrical release date has been set for January 23, 2015.

The Hunger Games focuses on the personal struggle teenage girl named Katniss Everdeen. In Suzanne Collins‘ sequel, Catching Fire, that personal struggle expands in a country-wide revolution. Yesterday actor Penn Badgley compared The Hunger Games plot to the Occupy Wall Street movement: “It’s the one percent [killing the kids] … I think you’d have to be blind to not see that … If this doesn’t end in revolution, it’s irresponsible, because of everything it’s bringing up.”
