Simon & Schuster Opens Publishing Company in India

Simon & Schuster CEO Carolyn Reidy unveiled Simon & Schuster India today–a “sales, marketing and publishing company” based in New Delhi.

Simon & Schuster U.K. managing director Ian Chapman will oversee the company.  Rahul Srivastava will serve as director of sales and marketing in the New Delhi office and lead a team of regional sales managers.

Reidy had this statement: “This new business makes clear our commitment to both the Indian marketplace and global publishing … India is a rapidly developing market for English language books, with a growing retail bookstore presence, and a deep-seated culture that prizes books and literacy, and we are very excited to bring more of our authors’ books to India’s expanding audience of English readers.”

Simon & Schuster Sets up Shop in India

PW Daily’s Rachel Deahl reports that Simon & Schuster is the latest publisher to see the Indian publishing market’s potential for profit and prosperity. Following Penguin and HarperCollins‘ lead, S&S will produce and market select titles from its American and U.K. lists – the first of which will be Mira Kamdar‘s PLANET INDIA, slated for publication by Scribner next month. Cyrus Kheradi, v-p and group sales director of S&S’s international division, will oversee titles for the India program along with Indian regional sales manager Rahul Srivastava. The division will based at the New Delhi office S&S established last year.
