Rush Limbaugh Wins Children’s Book Award

rushlimbaughRush Limbaugh has won Author of the Year in the Children’s Choice Book Awards for his latest kids book Rush Revere and The Brave Pilgrims: Time-Travel Adventures with Exceptional Americans.

Kids could vote for their favorite author, illustrator and book of the year online between March 25th and May 12th. Limbaugh beat Jeff KinneyRick RiordanVeronica Roth and Rachel Renee Russell, who were also finalists in the category.

The ceremony took place on Wednesday night in New York. Limbaugh blogged about his experience at the ceremony on his website. “I have to tell you, there were so many immigrants that came up to me before the event started, when everybody was being seated and during the event, and they were telling me what coming to America meant to them,” he wrote. “One of them was the photographer, one of the official photographers for the event.  There were a lot of people that were working the event that came up and wanted me to understand how much America had meant to them, and it was really great.”

Scholastic’s “Worlds Collide” Initiative Brings 3 Multi-Platform Series Together

WC_LogoScholastic will launch a new initiative called “Worlds Collide” to bring together three popular multi-platform series: The 39 Clues, Infinity Ring, and Spirit Animal.

Here’s more from the press release: “As part of the ‘Worlds Collide’ initiative, Scholastic will release for the first time a digital ‘Powerpack’ ebook bundle—including three first-in-series books in one volume—featuring The 39 Clues #1: The Maze of Bones by , Infinity Ring #1: A Mutiny in Time by , and Spirit Animals #1: Wild Born by . Scholastic will support the ‘Worlds Collide’ initiative with an extensive marketing campaign to link together the global audiences of The 39 Clues, Infinity Ring and Spirit Animals through a dedicated ‘Worlds Collide’ online hub (www.scholastic.com/worldscollide).”

Through the Worlds Collide website, fans are encouraged to play around with the stories from all three series and create mash-ups. To extend beyond the internet community, the minds behind this initiative have also organized the “Worlds Collide #1s” live tour.  Fans will also get a chance to meet some of the authors who contributed books to these popular series including James Dashner, Brandon Mull, Gordon Korman, and Jude Watson. Rick Riordan will make a special appearance at one of the events. See below for the complete list of tour dates.

Four Writers to Serve as Doodle 4 Google Guest Judges

google 304x200Four authors will serve as guest judges for this year’s Doodle 4 Google competition.

The group includes middle grade novelist Rick Riordan, writer Lemony Snicket, artist Christoph Niemann, and children’s books author Mary Pope Osborne. They will be looking over artistic pieces created by young students from all across the country.

Contestants must adhere to the following theme: ““If I Could Invent One Thing to Make the World a Better Place…” The winner will get a $30,000 college scholarship and the winner’s school will receive the $50,000 Google for Education technology grant. Those who are interested have until March 20th to turn in their submissions. Tanya Hall Named CEO at Greenleaf Book Group

A number of publishing job promotions and changes were announced this week.

Greenleaf Book Group founder Clint Greenleaf will step down as CEO and serve as chairman. Tanya Hall, the current COO, has been named his successor.

Two members of the Soho Press editorial team have received promotions. Juliet Grames has been named associate publisher and Mark Doten is now senior editor.

Rick Riordan & Lee Child Have the Most Pre-Ordered Books

Amazon editors have released the company’s annual fall preview, highlighting the most pre-ordered books of the season.

We’ve included the complete lists below. The House of Hades by Rick Riordan led the print pre-order list and Never Go Back by Lee Child topped the Kindle pre-order list. Here’s more from the release:

Kids Can Vote for Children’s Choice Book Awards

The 2013 finalists for the Children’s Choice Book Awards have been revealed. Kids can vote from March 19th to May 9th.

The winners will be announced live at the Children’s Choice Book Awards gala on May 13th. Nominees have been divided into four groups classified by different school grades.

In the Author of the Year category, middle-grade fiction writers and young-adult novelists dominate. The nominees include The Fault in Our Stars by John Green, Diary of a Wimpy Kid 7: The Third Wheel by Jeff Kinney, Wonder by R.J. Palacio, The Heroes of Olympus 3: The Mark of Athena by Rick Riordan, and Insurgent by Veronica Roth.

Rick Riordan to Write Norse Myth-Inspired Series

Percy Jackson series author Rick Riordan plans to work on a new series inspired by Norse mythology, but his fans will have to wait for the series.

According to Courier Press, Riordan will be spending next year working exclusively on book four of The Heroes of Olympus series. The third installment, The Mark of Athena, will be released in October. Here’s more from the article:

Writing about Norse mythology “represents a return to my roots as a reader,” he added, noting that his eighth-grade teacher got him interested in mythology by pointing out that the “Lord of the Rings” books — Riordan’s favorites at the time — were based on Norse mythology.”

Jeff Kinney Wins Author of the Year Award at 2012 Children’s Choice Book Awards

Wimpy Kid series author and illustrator Jeff Kinney was crowned “Author of the Year” at the Children’s Choice Book Awards gala in New York City. This marked the second year in a row that a middle grade author has emerged victorious in this category.
